French Government Allocates $549 Million Towards Green Transport

France is all set to go green. The French car companies Renault and Peugeot-Citroen are working independently with the power company Electricite de France (EdF), together with support from the government are soon heading for release of a squadron of their hybrid cars on to the roads in France. While Peugeot-Citroen will encourage the production of plug-in electric vehicles, Renault on the other hand will improve the charging infrastructure of these vehicles.

At the recent Paris Motor Show, President Nicolas Sarkozy publicized the decision of the French government regarding the investment of $549 million towards the research and development of electric and hybrid cars. The government owns up to 85 percent of the shares of EdF, which is the world’s biggest administrator of green cars. It is now establishing a charging terminal which is under trial by Toyota in UK. This terminal is equipped with an inventive “vehicle recognition technology”, which will debit the drivers unswervingly no matter where they get their vehicles recharged.

This judgment by the French government to promote and finance eco-friendly green transport should be appreciated not only by the locals but by the entire world. In the future, France would probably be one of the safest places to live, with these much awaited hybrid cars speeding on the roads.
