I suppose folks at Sony would be looking very closely at designer Tai Chiem’s new PSP design and if they are not paying attention then they should be. There is no doubt that Sony is being blown away by Nintendo and the PSP is probably not even playing second fiddle with Xbox growing fast. Sony needs to do something out-of this-world to grab the market and this pretty much is as amazingly awesome as your PSO design can get. The rolled up scroll-like thing you see in the image could be your next PSP, if it were up to Tai.

Tapping into Kinetic Energy that we produce while just walking around or even doing our daily errands has become something that forms and gadget makers are looking closely at. There are many such concept designs that float around once in a while and then disappear into oblivion. But when a major telecom company is making a prototype of a shoe that can charge up your gadgets then there is a reason for you to get a touch excited. The shoes being developed by Japan’s NTT could soon be charging up your iPods and even your mobiles.

The number of gadgets that are rolling out into the market with a green outlook and an attempt to save your energy consumption is pretty much overwhelming. There are many tacky and quite fancy gadgets that not just save your energy with smart integration with your home system, but also give you an access to real time stats and other figures making the whole concept of energy-saving a lot more interactive and fun. But all of them come with a certain initial cost that just puts them beyond the reach of many and just turns away potential “eco-followers”. The Ecobee might just be on that fine line which makes it not an attractive option but not an extravagant one wither.

If there is one industry that is achieving fabulous success in producing planet-friendly technology, then it surely is the Lighting Industry. It has come a long way in past few years with the development of LED and the OLED technology. The more important aspect of it is that the industry has found a way to integrate its cutting edge technology with consumer goods and has found a cost-effective way to make its way into our homes. Sure, even automobile industry is trying hard as well, but it is not like everyone can ride in a Tesla at any point!

Every time you look at the MacBook Air, your heart really skips a beat and if you own a notebook then it just appears that bit less special in your eyes. This is exactly why I most often try not looking at one; it simply is too seductive. But then the price tag that comes with the light-weight champion is good enough to put me back in my place. Despite all the ‘styling and profiling’, Apple has always been criticized for creating products that are just not eco-conscious. But the new Apple MacBook Air with its green technology is the first step towards wiping that indictment off.

Via a computer program, this electrical plug monitors energy use and cuts off electricity remotely. The “Smart Plug,” a new product from the energy line of British company AlertMe, does more than just conduct electricity. The Smart Plug that you insert into an electrical socket automatically connects to the AlertMe Hub, where the Smart Plug now acts as wireless broadband and GPRS connection. Through a website on your computer or handset, you can, then, view the electrical outlet’s energy usage statistical data.
The web interface can also let you remotely cut the power off in that particular outlet where the Smart Plug is connected. It can also program a schedule system for you as to what specific time you want the power to be cut off. According to AlertMe, the Smart Plug can save as much as 20 percent of your power consumption.

I think we all can very well do with a change in the conventional alarm clock ticking beside our beds. Aren’t we tired of seeing the same old boring pattern. Well, not anymore. Inovaxion has come up with an exquisite timepiece but with a wooden twist. So none of you with taste can actually say “No” to this little wonder that not only tells the time but also doubles up as a weather station.
The Woodstation is actually a collaboration between the French company Inovaxion with a Chinese factory called Aerotime. And the functioning is quite simplistic. The movement sensor in it detects your presence and the screen through the wood gives you the required information like time and weather forecast.
When activated, the Woodstation tracks fluctuations in barometric pressure, indoor relative temperature and indoor relative hygrometry data that enables it to tell you the weather forecast 12 to 24 hours in advance. And of course, there are the regular alarm clock functions.

Big icons indicate the weather in symbols like sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rainy, snowy and stormy. On top of this, the device can be used with both AC adaptor and batteries.

While most of us just leave our desktops and notebooks on for hours on the go without actually worrying about how much energy they are consuming, we end up causing a significant damage to the planet. The fact that you are not just consuming power even when not needed is bad enough, but if you add the carbon emissions to the list then it becomes far worse. Sure, a more energy-conscious PC will not help avert the next global disaster but saving those little nuggets of energy world over could ultimately make a huge difference. The Dell Concept PC designed by Luis Luna helps you go green with your PC in a fresh and vibrant fashion.
The O Project Dell personal computer is an eco-friendly computer that features a biodegradable skin composed of polymers based on cornstarch and bamboo. The O Project allows you to grow tiny little plants in those small pods making your home look a lot more beautiful than normal. Now if only we could add some energy saving features, a cool stand-by mode and energy-conscious screen, we would have the perfect green PC.

It seems that more and more companies across the globe are taking steps towards producing eco-friendly line of desktops and notebooks. Dell, ASUS, Samsung, Lenovo and Sony have all joined the green bandwagon. Surely someone will pick the O Project Concept of Luis Luna!

Samsung has been on a bit of a blazing green trial in the last six months as it is trying its best to launch a series of eco-friendly products. They have already launched Notebooks, Mobiles and Desktops in this series and are constantly adding more. All of these ‘green’ products may not really be all that good for the planet and you may not really like many of them. But there is always a chance that you could end up picking one from the lot and doing your little bid to help save the planet fro warming up faster!
Samsung has brought out two new desktops that share common specs including Intel’s G43 Chipset along with a choice between GeForce 9500GS with 512MB of VRAM and GeForce 9600GT with 512MB of VRAM. Both desktops apparently have an “eco-saving mode” that results in 60 watt energy consumption by the computers; both only consume one watt during standby. The price and the details are still not clear on both the models.
This really is not all that much both in terms of choice and green features. But when it comes to going green, every little thing counts. Maybe you can pick one of these up in case you happen to like them a tad bit more than the others.

We had been hearing of it unofficially for some time now, but finally Toshiba has come out with the actual schedule of the fuel cell-powered mobile devices. Releasing in March 2009, the new mobile devices will be equipped with a methanol fuel cell that gets charged with a dedicated cartridge. However, there will be a second built-in-Li-ion battery that will provide a strong back up.
Hear hear the cartridge can make space for around 50 ml of 99 per cent methanol which can charge a mobile phone 10 times. Priced at 700 yen, the cartridge has already become hot property but Toshiba is planning to reduce the cost price further down to 100 yen. A wise move as it will increase salability manifolds.
The big Toshiba plan is to use these fuel cells in digi cams, lappy etc as well. And the best part is, the cartridge being designed will be of a single type and will be compatible with many devices.
