Indian demi-God Amitabh Bachchan came out to promote diabetes awareness in London, where he is showcasing his ‘Unforgettable Tour’ with other Bollywood filmstars (the top two in his family itself). Launching a Mobile Assessment Unit that is devised to carry out free tests for diabetes, Amitabh too underwent the test to remove any embarrassment or discomfort associated with the practice. He was declared free of the hazard as hundreds of his fans cheered aloud.
Indian film industry has always lent its voice to social issues and Bachchan was extremely happy do the same for creating diabetes awareness. Maybe it’s Bachchan’s way of saying “thank you” for the doctorate he was awarded by the De Montfort University in Leicester in 2006. Reports suggest that Leicester has a predominantly Indian population and the dominant ailment is diabetes.
True to his element, our very own Big B charmed one and all with his characteristic modesty when making a fleeting appearance to the town in a helicopter.

Believe it or not but Batman star Christian Bale credits his acting skills to the company of horses. Okay, let’s begin from the beginning. Bale grew up a vegetarian and always harboured a love for animals, right from his childhood. This means most of his pets were stray cats and dogs. And recently, Bale told the Japan Times how much he loved horses and all that he has learnt from them. In a slightly philosophical mode he said that horses are magnificent creatures and they can walk without self-consciousness, which is a great quality to learn especially for them actors. As per him, when you master a horse, remember it also masters you. The whole experience is very fulfilling. It gives a boost to your confidence. But the most important achievement is when you can mount a horse, are able to move it as well as move along with it.
But hey, let’s not forget Bale’s notoriety with the media. Well, isn’t he best known to make up stories and fabricate background info to trouble the media? The same could be the case here, and if it isn’t, let’s appreciate Bale for such an interesting insight to the animal world.

One actor we can safely call an eco-lover is Pierce Brosnan. In a recent interview with Reader’s Digest magazine, he shared how the absence of a father in his childhood made him a family man he is today. The former James Bond has 5 kids and wants his “boys to feel that they have a very loving family”. By the way, the doting dad realises the importance of time spent with his children and continues to do so despite busy schedules.
Coming to Brosnan’s environmental initiatives, we are aware of the monetary contributions he has been making to various eco-benefit organisations (buzz is that the figure is over 1 million dollars). But charity begins at home. No one understands it better than Brosnan who carries his passion for nature even to his home. In his words, “We have a compost bin and my boys know how to use it. And they do compost all the food regularly, from where it goes into the garden.”
Wow, isn’t that food for thought! I’m sure not many of us knew of this wonderful way to stay eco-friendly.

Hollywood actor Jamie Lee Curtis aka ‘Wanda’ has set an example to the world with her Honda FCX Clarity fuel cell car. She and her husband Christopher Guest are the second couple after Ron Yerxa and Annette Ballester to do so in Southern California. Though I must mention that the hydrogen fuel is a topic of debate but everyone will agree that Honda’s most recent fuel sedan isn’t better than the first one. However, the latest fuel car is extremely stylish with its electricity-generating fuel cell stack. Curtis herself admitted so by saying that she “wasn’t expecting the car to be so luxurious”. “I love the interior layout, design and access to controls. It is a user-friendly vehicle and is very modern,” she exclaimed happily.
While the Clarity is the first publicly available hydrogen-powered vehicle to hit the market, don’t go rushing off to buy one at your local dealership. The vehicles are only being released in Southern Cal and Japan, and there won’t be many of them available.

You want to save the earth? Ask Mondo-green mermaid Daryl Hannah how. The pretty lass nurtures a deep love for bio-fuels and leaves no stone unturned to make it a part of her life. She has been using the fossil fuel alternative for over a decade in her converted El Camino and bio-diesel for buzzing around her farm. She even founded the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance. Wow, it is indeed very cool to see people and celebs go the extra mile to save the earth.
Daryl’s mantra is simple. She uses fuel from waste vegetable oil, and not ethanol which has received a lot of flak for rising food costs. In Daryl’s words, “There are plenty of fuel processing techniques and feed stocks that bio-fuels can come from—for both bio-diesel and ethanol— like garbage, hemp, algae, cellulose waste, prairie grasses, moringa and jatropha.”
So don’t give up on bio-diesel just because some corporate sharks are promoting otherwise!
