We keep hearing about eco-friendly vehicles dominating the roads across the world. But Mochi Craft has thought about the remaining 71%, which is water. A branch of Ferretti Group, this organisation sailed in world’s first eco-vessel.
A hyrbid yatch, it was launched at the 48th Salone Nautico Internazaionale. The green tag comes from the hybrid propulsion system that is exclusively manufactured by Ferretti. In other words, twin MAN diesel inboards are attached to a 15-inch, touchscreen monitoring system; thus allowing the helmsman to be able to switch among three different propulsion modes with the swipe of a finger: diesel, diesel-electric, or just electric.
An amazing start indeed, because once such eco-friendly hybrid yatchs sail across the blue water the ever-increasing pollution level will come down. Plus with its diesel-engine combination, the 75-feet water bus leaves ten kilograms of carbon dioxide for each nautical mile. There is also a battery pack that too can power the boat. And in this diesel-electric mode, the vessel emits less than half a kilogram each nautical mile.

The RINA Green Star certifies that the Long Range 23, priced at a huge three million euros, comes with both enhanced hydrodynamic capability and static stability.

The cute toy-like eco-friendly cars have been made a reality by Global Electric Motorcars (GEM), which is a DaimlerChrysler company. Almost 10 years ago, they came up with a 48-volt GEM vehicle that could easily accomodate two passengers and give a top speed of 20 mph. Call it a coincidence, but the same year the National Highway Traffic Safety Regulation acknowledged a new class of vehcile, the Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) aka low-speed vehicle. So these adorable toy-like cars actually found their way to the public roads.
That was then. Even now GEM vehicles are legal in many countries, but only on roads posted at 35 mph or less. The speed has increased in the latest model at 25 mph. Plus with an ability to cover around 30 miles on a single charge and modifications in the car body to suit your requirements, they have become very popular for traveling around neighbourhoods.
Meeting the safety guidelines, these GEM vehicles come with safety belts, headlamps, windshield wipers and safety glass. And their strongest point is that they are easily rechargeable at any 110-volt outlet in just six to eight hours.

A famous Oregon Winery called Willamette Valley Vineyards turned a silvery 25 this year. Apart from offering quality liquor to us all for all these years, this winery also set a benchmark of eco-friendliness. From the very beginning, Willamette Valley Vineyards has been offering 10 cents for each wine bottle brought in for recycling irrespective of who the original producer is!
The bottle deposit law was first passed by Oregon that supports recycling. Under this law, participating vendors are offered 5 cents for each drink container they recycle. And wine bottles were not included in this. So, you can see what an important and inspiring role Willamette Valley Vineyards is playing. Founding winegrower, Jim Bernau, was also honored by Low Input Viticulture and Enology (LIVE) for his vineyards’ sustainability.
But there is more. In 2007, Willamette Valley Vineyards introduced sustainable cork stoppers that were certified by the Rain Forest Alliance. Kudos to the organization for telling us really why the wine bottles are made of green glass!

Biodegradable plastic would be a welcome change that will surely take us to our world of green. A young NY based company Perf Go Green has come up with a range of products from commercial trash bags to plastic drop cloths that will help reduce plastic waste.
Looking at the hug mass of plastic that hits the garbage dump, the introduction of biodegradable alternative would be a big step towards a greener earth.
Good news is that Perf Go Green products incorporate recycled plastics, combining them with Oxo-Biodegradable proprietary method. This method makes their bags easily decomposable into simple products when exposed to microorganisms, moisture and oxygen; contrary to regular plastic that takes hundreds of years to breakdown.
If true, this would be a breakthrough!

This might be the largest biomass power plant in the world that runs only and only on chicken manure. Netherlands has come up with an innovative eco-friendly method which is expected to provide renewable electricity to somewhere around 90,000 households.
With a capacity of 36.5 megawatts, the biomass plant will generate more than 270 million kWh of electricity per year. Insiders reveal that the plant is a good way to get rid of the chicken manure, which if spread over the farm land would release a massive amount of CO2 as well as methane.
In other words, the plant is more than just ‘carbon neutral’. It will use up approximately 440,000 tons of chicken manure, which is one third of the total chicken manure produced in Netherlands every year. Indeed a good way to get rid of pollution by excess of different kinds of animal manure, a problem faced by many agrarian economies.
