Â
In this IT age where PC’s and Laptops are ubiquitous, the carbon footprint/emissions from every singe PC in the world matters! An efficient power management strategy is required to avoid an energy crisis. The free software from Verdiem viz. Edison is one such green-product. Released on Wednesday, this eco-friendly software saves Your PC’s Energy at home/ office by monitoring energy consumption by the machine in an efficient manner. It allows a person to schedule his/her computer’s entering the low-power mode while working at office/ home.Â
Â
According to an estimate PC’s consume about ten percent of a home’s energy bill even in the screen saver mode! It emits CO2-the notorious GHG in amounts equal to a normal non-hybrid car! That means though you might be actively voicing your concern for environmental issues on various forums on the worldwide web; you are equally responsible for global warming thanks to your PC! Â

Â
But now, hopefully things will change as Edison has arrived. It lets the PC to enter a “suspend” state, which uses less energy. Users have the flexible option at hand to shut down the screen and hard drive before their PC enters the suspended state. Edison runs on Windows XP or Windows Vista and its license is meant for single person use. Its manufacturing company Verdiem estimates that the eco-friendly software saves upto 410 kilowatt hours of power per year. This corresponds to a saving of $36.50 in your electricity bill! The amount might look small to you as compared to the overall bill but in today’s time of skyrocketing inflation every single dollar counts! Similarly, every small step towards environmental friendliness helps in paving way for a greener and safer future.

Enjoy Superb Solar Grilling this Summer with Helios Solar Grill!

What’s summer fun without barbequing and grilling? But if you care for your planet then conventional barbequing is not a viable option. However, you can still enjoy grilled food in a truly green manner with the new Helios Solar Grill. Designed in a sci-fi manner, Helios brings the goodness of solar energy to you by grilling your food with sun’s heat. This grill is as efficient as a solar oven in terms of energy. While you grill your chicken on it the reflective solar dish is pointed away from you. This ensures maximum safety. This reflective parabolic dish focuses sunlight on a solar receptor ultimately changing sunlight into usable energy. This energy then travels to the grilling platform and heats up a coil which then helps in cooking food.

The solar grill stores upright so as to leave a small carbon footprint on the atmosphere. Its cantilevers open up with ease and when your are ready to cook they lock back in place. Helios can be used on a bad weather day as well so that your cooking doesn’t suffer on a not-so sunny day! For this, the solar grill comes with a retractable plug. The latter is an alternative energy source stored in the base of the device. As compared to barbequing which emits a lot of carbon – emissions that ultimately leads to global warming, Helios solar grill is a cleaner option. If you use less ghee (fat) for your chicken tikkas then with Helios grill by your side, you can stay healthy and go green in a delicious manner! :-)

Andrea Salvini’s Crab House-Inspired from Nature for Contemporary American Cabins.
Posted in Architecture, Designer, Eco-Friendly, Go green, Green, concept on 26 July 2008

Beach houses and cabins are synonyms of relaxation and holiday-fun. If you own one you are lucky and if you are planning to get one constructed near your favorite eco-spot then you are super lucky! Why, I’m saying this is for the facts that, those who are yet to get one for themselves, have an option to make a responsible choice and pick up a design which is both environment-friendly and sustainable. Like Andrea Salvini’s Crab House! A multidisciplinary architect and industrial designer that he is, his designs reflect simplicity and functionality. He draws his inspiration from natural elements (flora & Fauna). His latest vision for the American Cabin-a beach house for Fire Island (NY) derives its anthropomorphic shape from a Crab!

The crab house is raised off the ground by stilts. To capture the scenic beauty of the vast ocean the front of the house is made of glass mostly. Its top floor bears a wide open-air solarium so that, on days when you are too lazy to go to beach you can bask in your own house and get sun-ergized! The interiors of the crab house are equally interesting with a ‘no-fuss’ notion evident everywhere.

Crab house redefines the modern American Cabin along with the architect’s trilogy for cabins & beach houses for the Fire Island. His designs emphasize recreational space for socializing yet preserving the much-needed privacy in modern day living! In simple words, the crab house and other of Salvini designs take you one step closer towards peaceful eco-living.Â
