I always wanted my bedroom (which happens to be my favorite place) to look like the one I saw in the fairytales. I always wondered if I would ever find a bed like the one on which Sleeping Beauty slumbered for years. Well, I’m happy I finally found one. Float, a cute green bed crafted from the sustainable, water-resistant Totara wood with base and canopy enclosed in acrylic fabric finished in Teflon fascinated me.

Optimum utilization of resources like never before!!! With Gianluca Solid’s Ovetto, you wouldn’t have to hide your trash bin in the corners but can flaunt it upfront. In an attempt to go green, the Ovetto is made out of recycled polypropylene and meets the needs of domestic waste separation. This helps educate the population to correctly dispose of waste in order to be able to consequently recycle it.
Available in white and black color with a capacity of 15 to 17 Liter, it requires 25/35 Liter bags and is an object of interior design that unites functionality, design and environmental education. Each of its compartments has ventilation to accommodate air circulation. Separation of waste plays an important role in the integrated management system of waste as it allows the reduction in the trash that ends up at landfills. To make certain that waste is correctly disposed off and recycled; waste must be kept separate according to the material class it belongs to.
So all you need to do is drop your waste in the small colored slot on the top, pull out the larger storage sections when you need to empty. Endowed with futuristic curves, this egg-shaped bin is fitted with separate compartments for your recycled items, like paper, plastic, glass etc is probably the hippest bin on the market, with the added bonus of being one of the greenest. It could be all yours for £139.99.

The big news is – Google decides to go green. In an attempt to rescue the USA from the energy crisis before 2030, the largest search engine in the world has decided to pursue a new energy plan. Experts believe that the company is being a little too modest calling their effort as too small, when now they are supporting and promoting green technology like wind power, solar energy, geothermal energy etc like enevr before.
The idea here is to take pressure off the fossil fuel resources. Google has cut down on its servers and buildings, even their computers are more efficient now so as to decrease consumption.
A very simple approach by Google that is hoped to inspire many others to actually sit back and think about the amount of energy they consume. It has even partnered with General Electric Co to develop a power grid that will have real-time pricing to show people their energy consumption.

Believe it or not but even music can be eco-friendly. I am not just talking about the green lyrics but the production bit as well. Caribbean musician Turtuga Blanku creates music that is powered by the sun.
The studio that he records his blend of rock, reggae and pop is called the Green Machine and is lined with strong photovoltaic cells. These cells absorb solar energy during the day in a battery such that the studio can utilize them at night. Plus Blanku keeps the recording process very simple to make it solar power friendly. He used recording hardware only for drums, bass, guitar, piano and voice keeping the rest for software, also instrument overload is avoided. And we thought Cloud Cult had given us the greenest music.
Hats off to Blanku for giving us a rare bare music in times when digital studio experimenting is a huge fad. And must we add Blanku’s music is good what with his strong focus on well-developed guitar hooks, rhythms and beautiful piano melodies.

The concept of ‘green buldings’ seems to be catching up in India. These structures are truly eco-friendly as they harvest their own water and not to forget the solar power systems. Not only this, they even have their own waste re-cycling system.
Plus the greenery in the otherwise concrete junglse that metros in India have become, is sure bliss. The construction has been done so that more than 50 per cent of the bulding is covered with glass like it is in Japan, which reflects the sun’s rays and keeps the indoor cool; thus, saving power.
When the fad was at a nascent stage, a 20,000 sqaure feet green building was consructed in Hyderbad in 2004. But now, the green attitude is catching up. You will be surprised to know that the green buldings (please read 315) in India today cover over 235 millin square feet.

There are fresh footsteps on the path of eco-fashion. They call themselves Redewin and sell unique classic and reconstructed clothes. Opening just last week, this fashion hub has caught on well with the eco-conscious masses who, look for green yet stylish outfits.
I find the concept of reconstructed clothing very interesting. Redewin takes button-ups, t-shirts, dresses, sweaters, jeans etc and stitch them together to create new fashion trends. So, you can be assured that the article you shop for will be unique.
Check out the Redewin website to discover some innovations in men’s, women’s and children’s fashion. And hey, you can pick up some recycled furnishings for your eco-house too.

The pretty Daryl Hannah has never fails to surprise us with her eco-friendly ideas and innovations. And the best part is that she likes to share them with the world. In a recent interview, she came out and loud about her love for nature and frustrations with the word “green”. She even talked about her eco-make up and steps she would take to make her life more ‘natural’.
One of the steps included, cultivating sunflowers. Daryl looks at them as a fuel crop. She even expressed her desire to grow hemp because then she would be able to grow her fuel for one full year in just an acre. But she cannot do so as growing hemp is ridiculously illegal in the U.S.
Indeed a stupid law, because hemp is a useful crop that serves as food, fuel and even non-petroleum biodegradable plastics.

Is the red organic shirt in your wardrobe as harmless as it seems? Think twice. Apparently, despite the availability of a large variety of garments made from organic cotton and hemp, you might still not be getting a fair green deal. The basic business instincts in man should be blame here as more and more manufacturers are at a cost cutting spree.
Reports reveal that cloth companies are outsourcing their fabrics to inexpensive dye houses in Asia that use substandard or banned dyes. The workers at these dye centres are not only paid a measly allowance but they are also unaware of the carcinogenic nature of the chemicals used.
So, what should one do? Well, buy clothes only from known brands. And since they say that natural is the best; do not buy dark or bright colours. Stick to white or anything light and you shall safely be green. Look out for the eco-labelling on garments.

Using the advanced techniques of airoponics, which helps grow plants without soil, various scientists from the USA and Israel have decided to create tree abodes for the future, a very eco-friendly housing solution for the future. The whole project is being supported by Plantware, and the first prototype home could be ready in just 10 years. They have already experimented in creating bus shelters, park benches and traffic lights from their unique growing techniques.
These homes will be constructed from actual tree roots to any design specification and will come equipped with a host of eco-friendly features such as solar panels and wind harvesting fans. The self-sufficient dwellings will draw power from clean energy sources and recycle human waste into valuable nutrients for the living trees. With this you can expect to have reduced heating bills, because when the deciduous trees shed the leaves, these homes will have more heat. And in the summer, the leaves will provide shade and shelter.

A very smart and practical “green” concept .Just what our poor little earth engulfed in pollution needs. A very scientifically natural way to purify the air .breathing fresh already? You can hold that thought for a decade though. But this wait will be worth the results.
