Oh yes, the regular fashion fundas remain but with a slight eco-friendly twist. The trend reports reflect the increasing popularity of ecofashion and natural beauty products.

Sara Snow, the host of The Discovery Channel show ‘Get Fresh’, in the ‘Shop with Pros’ section takes the reader for a delightful nature-friendly shopping experience. She says, “There is a direct connect between cosmetics and health. Some preservatives are actually hormone disrupters. So, I’d suggest that only organic and chemical free products should be used.” She even shares her favorite eco-friendly products with the readers.
The best is saved for the last. Remember the last time you were lost in the markets and the malls trying to locate eco-boutiques. Set your worries aside. The Shopping Report section called “New, Green and Great” features five eco-boutiques in cities across the country. Just the Tooth and the Brush

The world of dentistry will be revolutionized if Japanese manufacturers and a University of Saskatchewan researcher have their way. A company by the name of Shiken, based in Japan, is seeking to take dentistry in the future. Yes, they have visualized it to be a time when your toothbrush may no longer need your toothpaste to get the job done. The idea is to have a solar-powered toothbrush which will cause a chemical reaction in your mouth to eliminate plaque and bacteria from your mouth.

Sask dentistry professor Dr. Kunio Komiyama thought of it first when he created this type of toothbrush 15 years ago. A titanium dioxide rod was contained in the neck of the brush a little below the nylon bristles. Light falling on the wet rod would release electrons, which would react to the acid typically found in the mouth, helping break down plaque. The latest model is called the Soladey-J3X and works in the same way, except that it’s twice as powerful. The toothbrush needs about as much light as a solar-powered calculator.

Going Green?

2008 Golden Globe

Wonder what happened at the 2008 Golden Globe Award ceremony. To begin with, no hybrids, recycled red carpets, compostable flatware or sustainable gowns could be spotted. Blame it on the screenwriters’ strike, but all who came to attend the award function, included reporters and publicists. Well, for those who haven’t recognized the significance of the globe this year, let me repeat, it was the most earth-friendly awards even ever held in LA.

Despite the hic ups, NBC still televised a half an hour special on the show for under 6 million viewers, which is about a quarter of last year’s figure. The faces of Billy Bush and Nancy O’Dell suitably punished the idle minds. But Jorge Camara, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press, is optimistic. “The Golden Globes will be back bigger and better than ever next year,” claimed Camara.

Orlando Blooms in Nepal
Posted in World on 15 January 2008

Orlando
The Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom is following in the footsteps of Lucy Lieu, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Alyssa Milano. He too, being a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, came to the sub-continent to spread the message of cheer and goodwill. This time the destinations were the western districts of Kaski and Chitwan in Nepal.
Bloom was deglamorised the way his other counterparts were as he mingled with the kids and shared stories and smiles. He was officiated a warm welcome but it was the innocence of the kids that won him over. In a village called Pokhara, he even played a small role in a mini-drama which the blind kids were recording that day. And if that wasn’t all, his active participation in the UNICEF-supported radio programme ‘Saathi Sanga Manka Kura’ (Chatting with My Best Friend) left quite an impression.
Many would claim that it was a publicity stunt on behalf of the star. But it sure did bring a smile to so many innocent faces.
